BILLINGS – Seth Schneider scored two touchdowns and the Helena Capital defense shut down Billings West as the Bruins earned a 24-16 Class AA football win Friday at Daylis Stadium.
Schneider, who scored five touchdowns in Capital’s win at Billings Skyview earlier this season, put the Bruins on the board with an 11-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. West tied the game later in the period after Si Ryan blocked a Capital punt. Lucas Gibb recovered for a Golden Bears touchdown.
West added a Cody Gagnon field goal in the second quarter to take a 10-7 lead, but Capital would quickly answer. Schneider broke free for a 51-yard touchdown run to give the Bruins a 14-10 lead at halftime.
Capital quarterback Matt McGinley would give the Bruins their first double-digit lead of the game in the third quarter, breaking free for a 79-yard touchdown run. West’s DeMarcus Carr responded with a 68-yard scamper in the fourth quarter, but Capital iced the game with a 35-yard field goal to go up by the final 24-16 margin.
Capital, the third-ranked team in the MontanaSports.com Class AA football poll, improves to 6-1 on the season. West saw its four-game win streak end and falls to 4-3 on the season.
