BILLINGS – Wednesday was a big afternoon at Pioneer Park for elementary school runners.
Close to 1,000 turned out for the Yellowstone Elementary School Cross Country Meet. This race was free to kids county-wide who’ve had some early morning and afternoon practices the last few weeks, and also for some who didn’t train, but just wanted to give it a shot.
Wednesday’s distance was one mile for boys and girls between third and fifth grade.
Two traveling trophies were awarded. The Spirit Trophy went to Newman Elementary for the most participants per capita. Sandstone Elementary School was awarded the Top Dog Trophy for showcasing the most overall participants.
The meet was offered by the Big Sky State Games to introduce kids to a positive running experience. This marked the ninth year.
