GREAT FALLS – It was a valiant run for the Great Falls Voyagers, but in the end it was all for naught. The Ogden Raptors won the deciding Game 3 over Great Falls 8-3 in the Pioneer League Championship Series on the evening of Sept. 17.
Game 2 was played earlier in the day, and the Voyagers found success very early. Great Falls knocked in eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, including a grand slam from catcher Nate Nolan, his first of two home runs on the day. He went 3-for-4 at the plate. The Voyagers won big, 15-3, which forced the deciding Game 3 between the two teams later that afternoon.
Ogden looked much more confident in Game 3. The Raptors got an early lead in the game and never looked back. Ogden had 12 hits, bringing eight across in the 8-3 win in the Championship Series finale. It was the Raptors’ first Championship title since 1991.
It marked a bitter end to a wild season for the Great Falls Voyagers, who finished in last place in the north division during the first half of the season. The team did a complete rebound, though, winning the second half of the season and beating Missoula in the first round of the playoffs.
