SPOKANE, Wash. – The Carroll College soccer programs earned a sweep over Whitworth University on Sunday afternoon. The Fighting Saints women picked up a 1-0 victory while the Carroll men won 2-1 in double overtime.

Kyle Thomson took advantage of a Carroll corner kick in the extra minutes, using an assist from Eric Hollenbaugh and Alessio Georgiades to net the game-winner. Rodrigo Portillo scored the other goal for the Fighting Saints, with Hollenbaugh adding another assist in the second half.

The Carroll men improve to 2-1 on the season, days after scoring a program-record 14 goals in a win over Presentation. The Saints are at Walla Walla University on Friday.

Sunday’s contest between the Carroll and Whitworth women saw Madison Apsey find the net at the 20:48 mark in the first half, giving Carroll a 1-0 lead. Devan Murfitt had three saves for the Fighting Saints in the win. The junior from Bozeman helped Carroll improve to 2-2 this season.

The Carroll women host MSU Billings on Thursday at Nelson Stadium. The match is slated for 3 p.m.
