SHELBY – Sean Benson and Gina Kowalchuk enter Monday as your leaders of the MSU-Northern Invitational at Marias Valley Golf Course. Benson is six under par after two rounds while Kowalchuk shot a 1-over 73 in the first 18 holes in the women’s round.
Montana Tech’s Benson shot a 70 in the opening 18 holes, but bested that with a 68 in the second round of the tournament. Par is set at 72 for the tournament. Benson holds a six-stroke lead over Cody Babinecz of the University of Providence. The former Great Falls High golfer is even par after two rounds.
Babinecz is tied with Lewis-Clark State’s Tucker Keyes at even par. Rocky Mountain College’s Michael Tait is tied for fourth at one over.
Lewis-Clark State leads the men’s team race, with Rocky in second and Montana Tech in third.
Kowalchuk owns a four-stroke lead over Rocky Mountain College’s Eryn Ellis. The Battlin’ Bear golfer shot a 77 in the opening round. Teammate Hayden Flohr is three strokes back with an 80. The duo led Rocky to a 15-stroke lead after the opening 18 holes. Lewis-Clark State sits in second place with Carroll College currently in third.
