HAVRE – Jed Fike ran for more than 200 yards and two touchdowns as sixth-ranked Montana Tech ran past MSU-Northern 70-27 on Saturday afternoon.

Fike rushed 22 times for 215 yards, part of a 408-yard rushing attack from the Orediggers, who gained more than 900 yards of net offense. Quinn McQueary and Braxton Porter each rushed for 73 yards and two scores in the win.

But the afternoon didn’t start easy as MSU-Northern scored in the first 40 seconds, a Tommy Wilson 82-yard pass and score to Marvin Williams to give the Lights a 6-0 advantage in the early moments. But the Lights’ offense struggled to move the chains throughout the rest of the first half.

McQueary and Fike moved the ball downfield with McQueary, the quarterback and perhaps favorite for Frontier Conference offensive player of the year, scoring on a keeper from one yard out. He added another touchdown from three yards away near the end of the first quarter as the Orediggers built a 14-6 advantage.

McQueary and Chris Kelly hooked up on a pass-catch touchdown with 22 seconds remaining in the opening frame to cap a 21-6 first quarter. Dion Williams and Fike added touchdowns as part of a 35-0 run from Tech.

McQueary added four passing touchdowns on a 23-31 passing performance, totaling 394 yards, while being intercepted twice. Williams hauled in two of the receiving touchdowns, while Kelly and Chris LaChance caught the others. Sean Sullivan pulled in eight receptions for 119 yards.

Wilson was equally impressive in the Lights’ passing game, throwing for 354 yards and three touchdowns and an interception. Williams had 107 reception yards and two scores in the loss.

Montana Tech (2-0) next travels to Rocky Mountain College, which routed Carroll 40-14 for the Bears’ first win in Helena since 2000.

MSU-Northern (0-2) faces the Fighting Saints in Helena next Saturday.
