Smoke from nearby wildfires has caused unhealthy air quality throughout much of Western Montana (MTN Sports photo).

Poor air quality across western Montana has forced postponements of high school football games across the region.

Friday’s Class AA game between Great Falls High and Missoula Sentinel, originally scheduled for Missoula County Public Stadium, has been moved to Butte. The Bison and Spartans will kick off at Naranche Stadium at 7 p.m. Friday.

Naranche Stadium will also host a Class A game on Saturday. Hamilton and Browning have moved their Friday night contest to The Mining City. The Broncs and Indians will kick off Saturday at 1 p.m. It will be the third consecutive day Naranche Stadium has hosted a football game. Helena Capital improved to 3-0 with a 44-7 win over Butte on Thursday.

The historic stadium could potentially host a second game Saturday, too. Friday night’s game between Polson and Corvallis has been postponed to 4 p.m. Saturday. The game is tentatively scheduled to be played in Corvallis, but continued poor air quality would move the game to Butte.

That game has moved to Sheridan and will still kickoff at 7 p.m. Friday.

Lastly, in a matchup unrelated to air conditions, Custer-Hysham has forfeited its game against Grass Range-Winnett. The Rangers will instead play at Terry on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
