Poor air quality across western Montana has forced postponements of high school football games across the region.
Friday’s Class AA game between Great Falls High and Missoula Sentinel, originally scheduled for Missoula County Public Stadium, has been moved to Butte. The Bison and Spartans will kick off at Naranche Stadium at 7 p.m. Friday.
Naranche Stadium will also host a Class A game on Saturday. Hamilton and Browning have moved their Friday night contest to The Mining City. The Broncs and Indians will kick off Saturday at 1 p.m. It will be the third consecutive day Naranche Stadium has hosted a football game. Helena Capital improved to 3-0 with a 44-7 win over Butte on Thursday.
The historic stadium could potentially host a second game Saturday, too. Friday night’s game between Polson and Corvallis has been postponed to 4 p.m. Saturday. The game is tentatively scheduled to be played in Corvallis, but continued poor air quality would move the game to Butte.
Ronan and Stevensville also rescheduled their game. The Chiefs and Yellowjackets are now scheduled to meet Monday at 7 p.m. in Stevensville.
Friday’s game between Libby and Frenchtown has also been postponed. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Libby on Friday and then was moved to Frenchtown. However, it has now been postponed until Saturday at 2 p.m. at Fairfield.
In the Western B, Eureka and Thompson Falls have moved their game. Kickoff was originally slated for Friday night, but the two teams will now play Saturday at 1 p.m.
Deer Lodge and Anaconda have also postponed their Friday night game originally scheduled to be played in Anaconda. The teams are aiming to reschedule the game for Monday, according to Copperhead Country.
Two 8-Man games have also been affected. The Arlee-Charlo and Plains-Troy games were moved to Monday. Arlee and Charlo will kick off at 4:30 p.m. and Plains and Troy at 5:30 p.m.
And in the 6-Man ranks, Noxon has moved its scheduled home game with West Yellowstone on the road. The Red Devils and Wolverines will now play at West Yellowstone Saturday at 1 p.m. Valley Christian was scheduled to host Sheridan at 7 p.m. Friday in Alberton. That game has moved to Sheridan and will still kickoff at 7 p.m. Friday.
Lastly, in a matchup unrelated to air conditions, Custer-Hysham has forfeited its game against Grass Range-Winnett. The Rangers will instead play at Terry on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
