HELENA – Sam Malouf scored four goals to tie a school record, and the Carroll College men’s soccer team scored a school-record 14 goals in a 14-0 shutout of Presentation College (S.D.) Friday in a nonconference match at Nelson Stadium.
Following a slow start, Kyle Thomson put some energy into the team after scoring in the 38th minute.
“Kyle Thomson had a screaming rocket from about 35 yards out in the first half in the upper corner,” head coach Doug Mello said.
Three of Maloufs four goals came during a five-minute second-half stretch. The only other player to ever have four goals in a game was Arturo Valle in 2014 against Walla Walla.
“Sam Malouf is always buzzing around the goal. He ended the season with us with five goals in a reserve role,” praised Mello. “He is seeing more action, and he is getting more chances and had a couple of nice header goals, and he had a volley out of the air. He dribbled past the keeper and put in a nice shot. Those were all quality strikes.”
Jose Porras, Henry Smaldon, Jonathan Taylor, Jose Mena, Isaac Bostrom, Alessio Georgiades, and Nicolas Kyriacos all scored a goal apiece. Rodrigo Portillo added a brace as all 24 players who suited up for the game saw action.
Next up for Carroll is an away game in Spokane, Washington against Whitworth University Sunday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m.
