GREAT FALLS, Montana – The Billings Mustangs (15-19, 33-38-1) had their three-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday in an 8-5 loss to the Great Falls Voyagers (17-17, 32-40) in front of 828 at Centene Stadium.
Jacob Heatherly (0-1) made his third start with the Mustangs since his promotion from the Arizona League. After recording two quick outs in the first, the third-rounder would let four straight reach including walking two, giving up a single and hitting a batter to let in the first run of the game for Great Falls. The Voyagers would lead the entire way.
Great Falls stretched out their lead to 5-0 after a big, four-run third inning. Franklin Reyes doubled in two runs and Nate Nolan would add an RBI double as well. Reyes finished 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs.
The Mustangs were able to score three runs in the fourth on three hits. J.D. Williams added in an RBI single, his first of two hits, and Miles Gordon would sacrifice in another. Williams finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The closest Billings got was within a run after trailing 5-0. Montrell Marshall hit a solo homerun in the sixth, his seventh of the season, to make it a 6-5 game. Marshall would go 2-for-4 with a homerun and two runs scored.
The Voyagers then padded their lead in the seventh with two more runs on four straight hits. With the win they claim the season series 9-7 and split the two-game set. The Mustangs have not won a series in Great Falls since June of 2016.
Billings is now two games out of first place in the Pioneer League North Division with just four left to play. The Voyagers and Missoula Osprey currently sit in a tie atop the division.
