GLENDIVE – DCC Volleyball team traveled to Sheridan, Wyoming over the weekend to play three matches. The Lady Bucs started off the Tournament by playing Central Wyoming and losing 3 sets to 0 with scores of 14-25, 23-25, and 23-25. The Lady Bucs started off a little slow in the first set, but soon found their groove in the second and third and came close to taking a set or two off of this Division I school. Leading the way in the match was Cierra Loudon with 6 kills and 18 digs. Following her was Lexi Begger and Sara Anderson with 5 kills each. Begger also tallied 2 blocks in the contest. Erin Campbell had 17 digs and Channa Clarin finished the game with 4 blocks. Sam Egan added on 22 assists.
The next day the Lady Bucs faced off against Miles Community College for the 4th match in 3 weeks. This time the Lady Bucs came out on top with a three sets to zero win over the Pioneers. The scores were 25-17, 25-15, 26-24. The Bucs came out strong the first two sets, but in the third the Lady Pioneers fought back and made a game out of it until the Bucs pulled away at the end for the victory. This win was a group effort from the start to the end. Channa Clarin was on top with 13 kills followed closely by Cierra Loudon and Sara Anderson both with 9 and Lexi Begger with 7. Clarin also led the way with 4 blocks. Lexi Joslin got the squad rolling by racking up 3 aces. Defensively, the Bucs were lights out and had three girls in double figure digs. Anderson had 19 followed by Loudon and Erin Campbell with 17 each.
After the win against MCC, the Bucs took on the Tourney host Sheridan. DCC fought hard but eventually fell to this other Division I college three sets to zero with scores of 19-25, 16-25, 18-25. The Bucs were not going to go out without a fight in this match and gave their all into every point scored. Cierra Loudon led the way with 6 kills followed by Sara Anderson with 4. Channa Clarin racked up 2 blocks and Sam Egan added on 16 assists and 18 digs. Erin Campbell ended with 10 digs. “We grew a lot this weekend as a team and mentally.” Coach Dina Fritz said. “I was really pleased with the effort we put out and how we matched up against some really tough teams and am excited to see how the rest of our season goes.”
The Bucs will take on Bismark State College on Wednesday September 6th at 7 p.m. in Glendive.
