THREE FORKS – The Belgrade Bandits are a step closer after defeating the Billings Cardinals 14-8 on Sunday.
After being shut out by the Bitterroot Red Sox yesterday, the Bandits rushed out of the gate, recording four runs in the top of the first inning.
The Belgrade bats were on fire, after four innings they scored eight runs, but only led 8-6. However they closed out the last three innings strong, tripling the amount of runs the Cardinals scored to move on to Monday for a chance to play for the state title against Bitterroot. But it’s a tricky road.
Since the tournament is in a double-elimination format, it takes two loses to knock a team out. Belgrade has one loss (to the Red Sox) already, while Bitterroot is undefeated. Two games are scheduled between the two teams for tomorrow with the second being a conditional game if Belgrade wins the first. However if Belgrade loses either game, Bitterroot will be crowned champion.
