HELENA – Isaiah Meza came this close.

The Helena Senators senior nearly sent a pitch over the left center field wall on Tuesday night, coming within feet of a two-run home run against the Butte Miners. Instead, the play became a double but that didn’t stop Meza from celebrating with teammates during Helena’s 11-1 rout of Butte. The game, which was scheduled for nine innings, was called after seven due to the 10-run rule.

Meza added two hits and two RBI, plus that second inning double, as Helena improved to 11-4 in conference play just one week before the state tournament in Bozeman.

Kienan Stief drove in three more runs for the Senators, while Keaton Ralston had six strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Butte pitcher Liam Sommer threw three and one-third innings for the Miners, striking out one. Cameron Johnson also had a strikeout in three innings of his own work.

The two teams meet again Wednesday night with a 7 p.m. contest scheduled at Kindrick Legion Field.
