CALGARY, Alberta – Jess Lockwood, the 19-year-old Volborg cowboy, finished in a tie for third place in the final round of the bull riding at the Calgary Stampede, netting himself an additional $12,500.
Lockwood entered Sunday’s final rounds after clinching the top spot in Pool A, where he had three of the top four rides. He racked up $16,500 during his round rides to bring his total from the Calgary Stampede to $29,000.
Lockwood had the top ride in Sunday’s semifinal round, scoring 89 points to secure his place in the final, which paid out $100,000 to the champion. On his final ride, Lockwood was seemingly in control on bull Johnny Ringo but was unexpectedly dumped at 7.42 seconds.
Sage Kimzey of Strong City, Oklahoma, scored a 91-point ride on Night Moves to win the $100,000 payout for the second time in three years.
Garrett Smith of Rexburg, Idaho finished second, scoring 90.5 points on Compton Bound. Joao Ricardo Vieira from Sal Paulo, Brazil was also bucked off to finish tied with Lockwood in third place.
Lockwood is currently the No. 4-ranked cowboy in the PBR.
