BOZEMAN – Bozeman’s new Sports Park took another step toward completion Wednesday at noon. Mayor Carson Taylor helped kick off construction of the 80-acre complex that will eventually have 14 fields that can be used for soccer, rugby, lacrosse, and even ultimate frisbee.
Joe Billion, the lead sponsor for the park, challenged other businesses to help with the $2 million that’s needed to complete the first phase of eight fields. With 3,000 athletes in the are, and no new fields since the 1990s, the complex, which is just north of the new high school on Baxter, is clearly needed.
“The overall goal for the Bozeman Sports Park is to have a regionally attractive sports park that meets the incredible demand for field space for Bozeman youth,” said Allen May of the Bozeman Sports Park Foundation. “We look to have 14 fields here in a park setting that includes all the amenities that a park has with a high-quality playing field.”
The first eight fields are expected to be playable by the fall of 2018.
