LAUREL – Rayna Laakso won three individual events, and her Park City teammates won three more as the Panthers dominated the Southern C divisional track and field meet Thursday at the Laurel Sports Complex.
Laakso swept the 100- and 200-meter runs and won the 100 hurdles, her signature event. MacKinzie Verke won the triple jump, and Park City swept both relay races to finish with 117 team points, well in front of second-place Broadview-Lavina with 69. Kylie Schott was the Pirates’ lone champion in the 800 meters.
Terry freshman Laiten Lantis also won three events Thursday – the 400 meters, 1,600 meters, and 3,200 meters. Jordan’s Tarissa Phipps was also a multiple winner, taking the shot put and discus crowns.
Meanwhile, Alex Kosel won the high jump and triple jump titles to help Roberts to the boys Southern C team title. Kosel tied his PR by clearing 6 feet, 2 inches in the high jump, the top mark in Class C this season.
Boone Schmaltz, Gus Dines, and Andy VanOrnum also brought home titles for the Rockets. Schmaltz won the 1,600; Dines won the 3,200; and VanOrnum added a field event win with an 11-6 PR in the pole vault. Schmaltz added two second-place finishes in the 800- and 3,200-meter runs, while Dines added a third and a fourth. VanOrnum also added a third in the 400 meters.
Broadus sprinter Jake Lockwood swept the 100- and 200-meter titles, with Jordan’s Tyrone Hageman taking second in each. Hageman picked up a win in the javelin – he is currently second in Class C with a 179-1 PR.
Broadus finished third as a team with 53 points. Park City finished second at 79. The Panthers swept both relay races, while Brandon Flemmer added a win in the 800 meters.
