BILLINGS – The Billings Senior Broncs have the market cornered on the Midland Roundtable Athlete of the Year finalists and that’s exactly where we find our next athlete.
The Broncs have a proud history on the track and one of the main reasons is because of Dawson LaRance. LaRance competed on the track and in cross country all four years, claiming the 800-meter state title in 2016. He was named to the all-state team the past two campaigns and in 2017 he captured his biggest win to date.
LaRance burst on the national scene by winning the 800-meter at the Stanford Invitational earlier this season. A star on the track, LaRance also excels in the classroom as he’s posted a 3.6 GPA throughout high school.
The senior will be a favorite at state later this month. After logging all those miles, the man must be hungry.
“I definitely don’t have a problem eating what I want, because I run it all off, so that’s always nice,” he said.
That means he’s able to go to work on some of his favorite foods: “Steak and potatoes or something just, like, pretty hearty,” LaRance said. “And I love Big Dipper ice cream. … It’s probably my favorite dessert.”
Let’s hope there’s a Big Dipper in Minnesota. LaRance is headed to the Big 10 to run track and cross country for the Gophers.
This Senior Bronc would love to pursue a professional running career, but if it doesn’t work out he will be just fine. Dawson will take his talents to law school where he will look to study corporate law.
The Midland Roundtable’s male and female winners will be announced at a banquet Wednesday night at the Red Lion Hotel in Billings.
