MISSOULA – It took over 4 hours, and 17 innings, but the Senators finally left the field with a victory after 11:00 Wednesday night. Helena beat the hosting Mavericks 9-7.

Helena took the lead for a final time with two runs in the top of the 17th. Colin Sassano reached base on an error. Then Ray Moore tripled, and Andrew Rosston followed with a double. Missoula put two runners on in the bottom of the inning. But the pitcher Moore started a 1-6-3 double play to finally end the game.

The two teams combined for 33 hits and 6 errors. Helena used 6 pitchers. The Mavs sent 8 pitchers to the mound.

It looked like the Mavericks were on their way to a win two hours earlier. Missoula led 5-2 entering the top of the 9th. But Helena came back to tie the game on an RBI single up the middle by Kienan Stief, an RBI double by Moore, and an RBI ground-out by Rosston.

After holding the Mavs scoreless in the bottom of the 9th, Helena took the lead in the top of the 10th. An error with two outs brought in a Senators run to make it 6-5. But Dane Fraser answered with an RBI double with one out in the bottom of the 10th to tie the game again 6-6.

In the top of the 13th, Rosston led off with a single, stole second base, was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, and then scored on a fielders choice hit by Jackson Maynard. But once again the Senators could not hold the 8-7 lead. With two outs in the bottom of the 13th, Missoula’s Spencer Schock hit a clutch triple to right center. James Martin followed with an RBI single. But he was stranded at 2nd base.
