LAS VEGAS – Five players scored in double figures to help the Gonzaga women’s basketball team to a 77-46 win over San Francisco in the West Coast Conference Tournament semifinal round Monday at the Orleans Arena.
Former Fairfield High School star Jill Barta scored 12 points for the balanced Bulldogs, who were led by Kiara Kudron’s 15 points. As a team, Gonzaga shot 51.7 percent for the game, including 65 percent in the first half.
San Francisco shot just 26 percent and 13.3 percent from 3-point range. Elle Tinkle, who played at Missoula Big Sky High School, had a game-high two blocks.
“I am so proud of our team defense,” Gonzaga head coach Lisa Fortier said in a release. “I love the way we came out and the first quarter set the tone for the game.”
Gonzaga built a 9-0 lead, holding USF scoreless until the 5:30 mark of the first quarter. The Bulldogs led 22-4 after one and 47-14 at the break, their second-largest halftime lead of the year.
The Bulldogs (25-6) advance to the championship Tuesday at 1 p.m., where they will play either Saint Mary’s or BYU. The championship will be broadcast live on ESPNU and online at Watch ESPN.
