LAS VEGAS – The top-seeded Gonzaga women’s basketball team cruised into the semifinal round of the West Coast Conference tournament with a 91-59 win over Pacific at the Orleans Arena on Friday.
Former Fairfield High School star Jill Barta led the Bulldogs with a game-high 23 points, making 9-of-11 shots from the field. Elle Tinkle, who played at Missoula Big Sky High School, added 10 points.
As a team, Gonzaga made 48 percent of its field goal attempts and limited Pacific to 35 percent. The Bulldogs also made 24-of-26 free throws.
“I think our team really followed the game plan and digested the scout,” Gonzaga coach Lisa Fortier said in a release. “It was such a well-rounded effort, when you look we had four players in double-digits. A bunch of players with rebounds and several players with a lot of assists. I just thought it was an overall good team win.”
Tinkle scored Gonzaga’s first six points of the game, and the Bulldogs went on a 13-0 run in the second quarter to build a 37-30 halftime lead. Barta had 12 first-half points. She added a 3-pointer early in the third quarter as part of a 17-2 run from the Bulldogs to blow the game open.
They held Pacific without a field goal for more than seven minutes in the third quarter.
Gonzaga (24-6) will face fourth-seeded San Francisco (18-12) in the conference semifinals Monday at noon.
