BILLINGS – With the rest of her teammates having an off-day, Amaya LaFranier put Colstrip’s undefeated record on her back.
LaFranier scored 30, including a blistering 7-8 shooting from the three-point line, to lead the Fillies to a 55-45 win over a game Red Lodge squad in a Southern B first round game Thursday at Rimrock Auto Arena.
The rest of the Colstrip team shot just 9-44 (20.5%) from the field and scored just 25 points.
The Rams stayed close throughout the game. Red Lodge was own just four at half, and within six early in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t stop LaFranier and company enough times down the stretch. Natalie Hilderman led the Rams with 17 points and nine rebounds.
St. Labre’s girls kicked off the tournament Thursday morning with a 62-49 win over Shepherd. Sara Big Hair led the way with 29 points and 10 rebounds for the Bravettes, who are looking to return to state after taking third last season.
Shepherd trailed 33-25 at half, but only managed five points in the third as St. Labre swelled the lead to 15 heading into the final quarter. Taylor Buyse led the Fillies with 22 points.
The Bravettes will play Three Forks in the semifinals Friday, after the Wolves ran away from Lame Deer, 80-57.
Lame Deer jumped out to 21-14 lead after the first quarter, but the Wolves erased the deficit by halftime. Three Forks then outscored the Morning Stars 49-27 after the break to earn the win.
Kyle Olson led the Wolves with 21 points, including 4-6 from three-point range. Morgan Allen scored 18 and Talyn Pitcher added 15 and 12 rebounds.
Tamia TwoMoons exited the game midway through the second quarter with a leg injury, but came back after halftime to lead Lame Deer with 23 points, though on just 9-25 FG shooting.
Three Forks and St. Labre will play in the first girls semifinal Friday at 3:00 pm. Colstrip will take on the Roundup-Big Timber winner at 5:00 pm. Shepherd will play Lame Deer in a loser-out game to start the day at 9:00 am, while Red Lodge awaits the Roundup-Big Timber loser at 10:30 am.
