KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Crystal Schmidt was named the NAIA National Indoor Field Athlete of the Week after her record-breaking pentathlon performance at the Mountain States Games, the association announced Wednesday.

Schmidt, a senior from Hermiston, Ore., is the first NAIA athlete to break 3,400 points in the pent this season, breaking her own school record to notch a 3,404.

She won the high jump and shot put and took second in the long jump to earn a second-place finish at the meet, finishing behind Idaho State’s Bailey Woodbury.

Schmidt is first in NAIA and six points ahead of second-place Kylie Gokie from Doane (Neb.).

The Saints have completed the regular season and will compete at the NAIA Indoor National Championship in Jackson, Tenn., March 2-4.
