GLENDIVE – In the last game before Christmas for both Dawson Community College and Miles Community College, DCC jumped out to a big lead in the first half and held on to a 7 point victory.
In the opening half the Bucs were hot from the outside, hitting seven three’s out of sixteen attempts. Gavin McPherson had two of those and Ryan Strong came off the bench to get three more. The Pioneers tried to keep it close by going inside to Adoum Mbang who had 9 points and with drives to the basket from Perion Little who had 10 points, but it wasn’t enough as Dawson closed out the half with a 46-32 advantage. They forced 13 turnovers and scored 11 points off of those turnovers. Daniel Shedden scored 9 points in the first half and collected 9 rebounds.
Miles made a mini-run to open the 2nd half, but poor shooting from long range (2-18) and 26 turnovers was their undoing. Dawson cooled down from their hot shooting, but did enough to maintain a lead all the way to the end. Shedden finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds and Brendon Chevannes added 12 points. Mbang led the Pioneers with 21 points on 8-9 shooting from the field and 11 rebounds. Little finished with 18 points.
MCC finished the first half of the season with a 7-7 record. DCC is 9-7. Both teams will take a break for the Christmas Holiday and return to action in January with one tune-up game before starting conference play.
