HAVRE — Montana State University-Northern center William Walker was recently announced as a nominee for the 2017 Allstate NABC Good Works Team® — one of the most prestigious off-the-court honors in men’s college basketball.

For the fifth year, Allstate and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) are recognizing a select group of men’s college basketball student-athletes for their community service achievements.

Walker, a senior on the Lights basketball team, has demonstrated leadership both on and off the court through hisdedication to giving back to others.

He Volunteered for ARISE Clean Up Detroit, where he helped clean classrooms, bathrooms and hallways in addition to landscaping at a local Detroit school. Walker has also helped with local festivals and fairs with the set up and break down. He’s participated in the Trick or Suite for Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan, Auburn Elementary literacy fun nights, literacy night at Avondale and family reading night at Long Meadow Elementary. He’s also taught basketball fundamentals at the area Boys & Girls Club

From this year’s record number of 181 nominees, a final roster of 10 award recipients – five players from the Division I level and five players from Divisions II, III and the NAIA – will be announced in February.
