WHITEFISH – Carroll College swept the Frontier Conference men’s and women’s basketball player of the week awards, the conference announced Monday.
Zach Taylor was named the men’s winner. A 6-foot senior, Taylor helped the Saints to an impressive split last week. They defeated NCAA Division II Montana State Billings 76-72 and lost to NCAA Division I Washington State 78-70. Taylor averaged 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
Cassidy Hashley, a 6-2 junior center for the Saints, won the women’s award. She averaged 19 points and nine rebounds in Carroll’s two season-opening wins – a 77-58 win over Central Baptist (Ark.) and an 82-66 victory over the College of Idaho.
Carroll also had one of three weekly volleyball winners.
Jonni Dorr was named setter of the week. The 5-9 senior setter helped the Saints close the regular season with wins over Montana Western and Rocky Mountain College. She averaged 13.38 assists and 3.63 digs per set.
Bailie Cortner of Montana Tech was the attacker of the week, and Dylan Fowler of Montana Western was the defender of the week.
Cortner, a 6-2 middle blocker from Red Lodge, averaged 5.86 kills with a .561 hitting percentage in the Diggers’ wins over the University of Great Falls and Montana State-Northern.
Fowler, a 5-5 sophomore libero from Belgrade, averaged 8.63 digs per set, including a career-high 36 digs against Rocky. The Bulldogs dropped both of their matches last week.
