Ted Dawson joined KBZK and KXLF as sports director in January 2011.

Ted has had a distinguished 40-plus year career that has taken him around the world covering some of the biggest sporting events in the business. Ted started his career in Salt Lake City, while playing football for the University of Utah. After a brief stay in Dodge City, Kan., Ted went to Reno, Nev., where he was the sports director for KOLO-TV and Radio and the play-by-play voice of the University of Nevada. During that time, he covered the first Super Bowl game, doing the post game interviews for CBS. In 1970, Ted went to Portland, Ore., where he was the sports director for KOIN-TV and Radio, broadcasting Oregon football and basketball games, as well as the Portland Storm of the World Football League. In 1972, Ted was named sports director for KNXT-TV (now KCBS) in Los Angeles. During five years at the CBS O&O, he broadcast numerous network sporting events in addition to appearing in several movies. In 1977, Ted moved to KABC-TV in Los Angeles and spent the next 13 years covering sports for ABC’s Wide World of Sports. He broadcast five Olympic games, nine World Series, 19 World Championship fights and every Super Bowl during that period.

In 1990, the Dallas Cowboys invited Ted to broadcast their TV games, serve as host to the “Jimmy Johnson Show” and to broadcast sports on the local CBS affiliate, KDFW-TV. After the opening game of the season (played in Tokyo, Japan) in 1995, doctors discovered that Ted’s wife Joyce was suffering from a serious health problem. Ted immediately quit his job and started caring for her. Joyce passed away three years later. In 2003, Ted decided to get back into sports and accepted the sports director’s job at KIDK in Idaho Falls. In August of that year, KIDK’s sister station, KBCI in Boise, called Ted over to southwest Idaho to be the TV voice of the Boise State Broncos. He broadcast two seasons that saw the Broncos go 13-1 and 12-1. They finished in the top 15 both years.

Ted returned to Idaho Falls after his Boise State contract was completed as sports director.
